On December 2, 2025, in Sacramento County, California, law enforcement officers launched a massive manhunt after authorities say former Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy Marvin Morales fatally stabbed his 11-year-old son before fleeing the scene. What began as a horrifying homicide investigation quickly escalated into a multi-agency police pursuit spanning multiple counties across Northern California. Elk Grove Police officers responded to a residence after family members discovered surveillance footage allegedly showing the attack. Officers arrived to find the child suffering from critical injuries. Morales had already fled the area before officers arrived. Authorities later located Morales driving southbound on Interstate 5, triggering a dangerous police pursuit involving the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, Elk Grove Police Department, and additional assisting agencies. The chase continued into San Joaquin County where CHP officers deployed spike strips near Highway 12. Morales eventually crashed along Interstate 5 before deputies and officers confronted him at gunpoint. Body camera footage released by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department captured the tense final moments as officers repeatedly told Morales not to reach inside the vehicle, before multiple officers opened fire, ultimately killing him.
