On May 9, 2026, Fond du Lac County Sheriff's deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers initiated a pursuit of a fleeing suspect after an attempted traffic stop. During the pursuit, which spanned roughly 4.5 miles, the driver reportedly reached extreme speeds while actively evading law enforcement. The driver was later identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As the pursuit reached a freeway exit, the suspect lost control of the vehicle at high speed. The car launched completely airborne off an embankment, flying over another vehicle before violently crashing into a nearby field. Following the crash, Stokes attempted to flee the scene on foot before officers successfully deployed a Taser to take him into custody. Authorities later discovered the suspect was wanted on an active felony warrant out of Kenosha County. Stokes now faces multiple new charges, including first-degree recklessly endangering safety, felony fleeing and eluding an officer, felony bail jumping, and firearm possession by a convicted felon.
