On November 21, 2023. An officer from the Rice Lake Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign. The officer recognized both the driver (Stephanie) and the passenger (Gesmos) from prior police contacts. Stephanie advised she did not have proof of insurance on the vehicle. She also stated the reasoning for not stopping at the stop sign was because she was unsure if she was going to turn or continue forwards. Dispatch advised that Gesmos was on probation with a rule to not have contact with Stephanie. Officers asked them to step out of the vehicle and a K9 alerted to the odor of narcotics. While searching Stephanie, an officer located a small bag with a white substance in the side pocket of her pants. Stephanie said that she had not worn those pants in a while and stated "It's an old residue bag". While searching the right side of Stephanie, another small bag that contained a white substance fell out of her pants and landed by her feet. Stephanie initially said she did not know what the bag was but when questioned further she stated "That's meth". A test of the bag containing the white substance that fell at her feet tested positive for Methamphetamine. Stephanie advised she has not used Methamphetamine for a couple days. A test of her pupils showed that they reacted slowly to light, which is known to be common with methamphetamine use. Inside of the vehicle, officers located multiple clear bags that were ripped and appeared to have a residue on them. Stephanie advised that she did not know anything about the bags and she last used Methamphetamine a few days ago. Officer conducted field sobriety tests and Stephanie asked if she was under arrest. She was placed in handcuffs and placed in the rear of a squad car. Stephanie consented to an evidentiary sample of her blood before being transported to the Barron County Jail. The bag containing a white substance that fell out of her pants tested positive for Methamphetamine and weighed 0.16 grams. The other small bags that contained a white residue all tested positive for the presence of Methamphetamine. Probation was contacted regarding Gesmos having contact with Stephanie due to his rule to not have contact with her, and a hold was placed on him. Stephanie was found guilty for OWI (2nd), and Possession of Methamphetamine. She was sentenced to 90 days in jail, and three years of probation. Her driver's license got revoked for one year and she was ordered to pay over $1800 in fines. This video is for educational purposes only.
