On June 5, 2024, North Port PD officers were dispatched to their own police department lobby for a 53-year-old woman being disorderly. The situation escalated quickly when the woman, approached a Police Commander, got into his personal space, and forcibly bumped him. When officers attempted to place her under arrest, she refused to comply and had to be physically restrained. The struggle continued outside, where the women managed to slip her handcuffs while in the patrol car. As officers attempted to re-secure her, the 100lb woman kicked the Police Commander in the leg. She was transported to jail on two felony charges: Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Officer with Violence.
