On February 3, 2024, Las Cruces Police Officers were responding to an unrelated call at the Mesilla Valley Mall when security officers flagged down Officer Dorado about a possible shoplifter. A 17-year-old Juvenile allegedly had an argument with the manager of Spencer's Gifts and stole a can of Red Bull as she walked out of the store. The manager wanted to press charges for the shoplifting and the security officers trespassed the girl from the entire mall. The girl's parents were called and they responded to take custody of their daughter.
