It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At 1:47 AM on April 19, 2023, Officer Arthur Gant saw a car. The white Nissan Altima sedan ran a stop sign. It was at River and McLean Avenues. He turned on his lights. The driver kept going south on River Avenue. She then pulled into a parking lot. Her car was parked crookedly. The driver, Nicole, got out. She did not follow Officer Gant's orders. Officer Gant smelled alcohol on Nicole. He saw signs she might be drunk. Nicole said she was coming home from work. She tried to walk away from the stop. She gave him PBA cards instead of documents. Nicole mentioned her father and uncle were Newark police. Sergeant Thomas Hayes arrived to help. Nicole admitted she drank earlier. Officer Gant asked her to do tests. Nicole could not recite the alphabet correctly. She also failed the One Leg Stand test. She did not lift her foot right. She did not count correctly. Next was the Walk and Turn test. Nicole did not step heel-to-toe. She also lost her balance. The last test was Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. Officer Gant saw her eyes did not track smoothly. They jumped and didn't stay steady. Nicole's driving was erratic. She showed signs of being drunk. The officer smelled alcohol. She failed the sobriety tests. Officer Gant arrested her for drunk driving. Her car was towed to All Time Auto Body. It was held for 12 hours. Nicole went to the police station. At the station, Nicole refused breath tests. She also would not answer questions. After processing, she was released. A sober adult signed for her. She must appear in court. Officer Gant wrote Nicole several tickets. These included driving under the influence, refusing a breath test, reckless driving, and running a stop sign. Later, on April 4, 2024, Nicole pleaded guilty. She admitted to driving under the influence. The judge ordered her to use an ignition interlock device for three months. She also had to attend an impaired driver program for 12 hours. She paid $640 in fines. Her jail sentence was suspended.
