On April 5, 2024. A deputy from the Walworth County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding and tint violations. The driver did not initially stop when the deputy turned his lights and sirens on behind him and he continued to drive around 20 MPH over the speed limit before he eventually pulled over. The driver did not follow the deputies orders but answered his phone when Dispatch called him. After about 45 minutes of negotiating with the driver to exit the vehicle, a Bearcat Swat vehicle arrived and boxed the vehicle in. Deputies approached the vehicle and one of them used a hooligan tool to smash out the window while another deputy tossed a pepper spray canister grenade into the broken window before stepping away . Deputies went back to the vehicle shortly after to remove and detain the driver. The suspect was transported to the hospital for a mental evaluation before he was taken into jail. He was charged with “Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Resisting/Failing to Stop, Vent/Side Window Excessive Tinting, Exceeding Speed Zones, etc. (20-24 MPH)”.
