The car turned onto SR 36 from Orchard Avenue. He followed the car. The driver ran another red light in the Linden Avenue jug handle. Sergeant McGrath turned on his lights and siren. He wanted to stop the car. The driver kept going. She ran a stop sign at Linden and Waterwitch Avenues. Then, she turned left onto Waterwitch Avenue. She quickly turned left again onto Shore Drive. The car sped toward Popamora Park. Shore Drive is a dead end. Sergeant McGrath slowed down. He told dispatch where he was. The driver pulled into a driveway on Shore Drive. The car's horn blared loudly. Sergeant McGrath walked to the car. He told the driver to get out. She refused. She was not cooperating. Sergeant McGrath had to pull her out. She fought back. His body camera fell off during the struggle. Patrolman Robert Alvator arrived soon after. His camera recorded most of the event. The driver was Amanda Peters. Officers put her in handcuffs. They took her to the patrol car. They searched her car after arresting her. They smelled burnt cannabis. They thought she was impaired. They impounded her car for 12 hours. This was under John's Law. At the police station, Sergeant McGrath gave Amanda tests. The first was the eye test. He watched her eyes. They did not follow his finger smoothly. They jerked at the furthest points. The next test was the Walk and Turn. Amanda did not step heel-to-toe. She took the wrong number of steps. Her turn was also wrong. The last test was standing on one foot. Amanda did not lift her foot correctly. She put it down too soon. He found she was under the influence. Sergeant McGrath read her a statement. He wanted to ask about breath samples. Amanda became very difficult. She threatened to attack the officers. Patrolman Kevin Connor cuffed her to a bench. She kept resisting. They decided to take her to the hospital. Patrolman Alvator drove Amanda to Monmouth Medical Center. He handed her over to hospital staff. Amanda received these tickets: Operating under the influence. Refusing a chemical test. Reckless driving. Ignoring a traffic light. Running a stop sign. Driving on marked lanes. Misusing horns. She also faced criminal charges. These were resisting arrest and eluding police. Amanda had prior arrests. These include: Simple assault in Middletown, NJ on April 11, 2022. Simple assault in Middletown, NJ on February 6, 2022. DWI in Hazlet, NJ on February 25, 2019.
