**High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Serious Injury Crash on Interstate 555** Poinsett County, Arkansas — On Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at approximately 6:56 p.m., an Arkansas State Police trooper clocked a black passenger car traveling 90 mph in a posted 75 mph zone on Interstate 555 near the 23-mile marker. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver accelerated to speeds reaching **130 mph** while traveling northbound. According to the report, the driver passed other vehicles on the right and drove recklessly as the pursuit approached Trumann. Concerned that the pursuit was entering a more populated area, the trooper performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) near the 28-mile marker. The suspect vehicle lost control and struck a black Toyota Highland traveling northbound. The Toyota left the roadway and overturned several times. Its occupants, identified as **Carmela and George Contos**, were seriously injured and trapped inside the vehicle. First responders later extricated them, and both were flown to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. The suspect, identified as **Laloyd Hamilton, 32**, was taken into custody following the crash. EMS later administered Narcan after Hamilton became unresponsive. A search of Hamilton's vehicle reportedly uncovered **44 grams of marijuana, four 30 mg oxycodone pills, and 18 60 mg OxyContin pills**, along with prescription bottles that had identifying information scratched off. Hamilton was subsequently booked into the Poinsett County Sheriff's Office on charges including **felony fleeing resulting in serious physical injury, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree battery, possession of controlled substances with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana, first-offense DWI involving drugs, and reckless driving involving physical injury.** According to the report, investigators also obtained a warrant for a blood sample, which was eventually executed after an initial hospital declined to perform the blood draw due to company policy.
