On February 12, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Officer Standerwick responded to a trespassing incident at Pier 3 Cruise Ship Dock. Upon arrival, he met with Pier B Security Officer Greg and KWPD Lt. Wood, who was working at Pier B as an off-duty officer. Lt. Wood had detained a white male, later identified as Thomas (the Defendant), on the pier. Lt. Wood and Greg were informed by Carnival Dream that the Defendant had been on board the cruise ship attempting to gain access. Despite numerous "no trespassing" signs at the main gate to the pier, the Defendant managed to bypass security and make his way towards the ship, passing all the warning signs in the process. When questioned about how he bypassed security, the Defendant explained that he simply got in line with other cruise ship passengers, presented his Florida ID card, and was allowed to pass through.
