On December 3, 2023, the Spring Lake Heights Police Department received a report about a parked pickup truck that had been struck by a moving vehicle, which then fled the scene. Officers Michael O’Neill and Samantha Levy responded to investigate the incident. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers made contact with the victim and began searching the area for the suspect vehicle. A short distance away, they discovered the striking vehicle, which had been abandoned and was now disabled. Witnesses on the scene informed the officers that they had observed a middle-aged woman with red hair fleeing the area on foot. Shortly thereafter, the owner of the vehicle was located in another vehicle as she approached officers on a nearby street. She was detained while officers continued their investigation to confirm her involvement in the hit-and-run. A show-up identification was conducted, during which witnesses positively identified her as the driver. Field sobriety tests were administered, revealing that the driver had been operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol. She was taken into custody and transported to the station, where a breath sample indicated her blood alcohol concentration was 0.20%, two and a half times the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle. This arrest marks the driver’s fourth DUI arrest in New Jersey. As of the date this video is posted to YouTube, the case is still pending in court. It is important to note that all charges are allegations, and she should be considered innocent until proven guilty. We hope she gets the help she needs before she kills someone.
