On August 13, 2022, Officer J. Torrecillas was dispatched to a hotel in response to a report of a physical disturbance. Upon arrival, the officer found one individual speaking with Officer D. Slaunwhite. Security personnel reported witnessing the individual holding another person in a headlock and striking her repeatedly in the face. The security personnel noted that the second individual was unable to defend herself as she was holding a baby in her arms. He intervened, separating the two, after which the first individual left the scene. Officer Torrecillas attempted to speak with the first individual, but she was uncooperative and did not provide identification, and the name she gave did not return any results. Despite being asked to end a phone call for safety reasons, she refused. Officers Slaunwhite and J. Roscoe then attempted to handcuff her for safety, but she resisted by pulling away. Eventually, she was handcuffed and placed in the patrol car. Officer E. Roberts later spoke with the second individual, who initially claimed to have punched the first individual first but later changed her statement. She received treatment for a bloody nose at the scene but declined further medical attention. The baby was unharmed. The husband of the second individual stated that tensions existed between the two individuals due to his marriage and a reported affair with the first individual. He was not present during the incident, having been elsewhere at the time. Upon speaking with the second individual, she described a physical altercation that occurred in their hotel room, during which the baby was present. The fight escalated over the baby, but she managed to regain custody of him before the confrontation continued. Based on the investigation, probable cause was established for the first individual's arrest for battery and resisting an officer without violence. Additionally, probable cause was found for the second individual's arrest for battery as well. Both individuals were transported to the Monroe County Detention Center, and the baby was placed in the care of the husband. The Department of Children and Families was notified, and an investigation into the incident was initiated. Based on the investigation, probable cause was established for the first individual, Alexandrea’s arrest for battery and resisting an officer without violence. Additionally, probable cause was also found for the second individual, Mariah’s arrest for battery as well. Both women were transported to the County Detention Center, and the baby was placed in the care of the husband.
