On April 10, 2024, Wooster Police Officers Waddell and Topovski were on routine patrol when the driver of a red SUV failed to stop at a stop sign and nearly collided with the patrol car. The 2 officers initiated their lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, but the SUV would not stop. The driver of the SUV, a 50-year-old woman, drove all the way home and pulled into her driveway. She further failed to comply by refusing to immediately exit her vehicle. Officer Waddell assisted her out of the vehicle and she was immediately placed in handcuffs. She then requested to use the restroom, but her request was denied. She was too intoxicated to perform field sobriety tests, so she was placed in the back of the patrol vehicle and was transported to the Ohio State Highway Patrol post for a breath test. After being explained the implied consent law, the woman refused to provide a breath sample. Officers then obtained a search warrant for a blood draw. The woman was transported to Wooster Community Hospital, where the blood draw occurred. As she exited the police vehicle at the hospital, the video shows a little surprise she had for the officers since they refused to let her use the restroom. After the blood draw, she was transported to the Wayne County Jail. The police report indicates her blood alcohol concentration was 0.294%. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
