On May 10th, 2025, officers with the Orlando Police Department responded to a Target store after security reported a woman hiding in the bathroom with unpaid merchandise. When she exited the restroom and walked past all points of sale, officers approached her at the store’s exit. She was taken into the loss prevention office and placed under arrest for Petit Theft under F.S.S. 812.014(3)(A) after security confirmed the total value of the items was $145.47. The woman, identified as Imarah Aaliyah Bryan, was advised she was trespassed from the property and stated she understood. Officer Reyes’ body-worn camera was active during the entire encounter. Following her arrest, Bryan was released on her own recognizance. However, when she failed to appear for her July 9th, 2025 pre-trial conference, the court issued a capias warrant and revoked her release. She remained in custody until her next hearing on September 17th, 2025, where she appeared before Judge Amanda Bova, entered a no contest plea, and was adjudicated guilty of petit theft. Her court appearance later went viral online, with many viewers claiming she had special needs and didn’t fully understand what was happening.
