A routine shoplifting call at Walmart turns into a fight, a Taser deployment — and then a medical emergency that nobody saw coming. On May 21, 2023, Vancouver Police responded to a reported shoplifting at a Walmart in Vancouver, Washington. Police say Elijah Guffey-Prejean resisted arrest, punched one officer in the face and injured another during the struggle. Officers deployed a Taser to gain control. Moments later, with him in custody, Elijah began showing signs of a possible drug-related medical emergency. Officers administered Narcan on scene and he was taken to a hospital before being booked. He was later booked on Theft III and two counts of Assault III.
