On Nov. 21 2025, around 2:30 p.m., Police/Fire/EMS responded to a report of a house fire at 194 Springbrook Trail. While on the way, police received an update from dispatch that the caller stated there was a domestic dispute at the house and it was intentional set on fire by the accused male. When police arrived, an unidentified male was refusing to move from the nearby fire. Police attempted to forcibly remove him when he resisted and was subsequently arrested. Samuel Kirkpatrick, 45, of Sparta has been charged for setting his house on fire, killing three cats, and injuring one firefighter. Kirkpatrick is charged with two counts of aggravated arson, criminal mischief, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force, and three counts of failing to provide care to a living animal by causing the death of three domestic cats. He was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility to await court proceedings.
