On August 21, 2023. Officers from the River Hills Police Department were informed that the Brown Deer Police Department was currently in pursuit of a vehicle. Brown Deer officers advised that the car stopped briefly and 2 occupants bailed from the vehicle with 1 being held at gunpoint. The vehicle took off again, later being located by the River Hills Police Department. The suspect sped through a construction zone with multiple workers in the area, ran a stop sign and began driving on the wrong side of the roadway before crashing. The suspect vehicle began to smoke and the occupants bailed on foot. Officers followed but quickly lost sight of the fleeing suspects in a wooded area. A perimeter was established with a K9 dog and drones. When officers said that the K9 dog would be entering the woods, the suspects ran out and were located by officers. The suspects surrendered and they were later identified as 15 and 16 year old teenagers. After being detained, they became cooperative and were no longer attempting to flee. The 16 year old driver was charged with “Reckless Driving-causing injury, Operate Vehicle without Owner's Consent, Operator Flee/Elude Officer, Hit and Run-Causing an Injury, 1st Degree Recklessly Endanger Safety, Exceeding Speed zones (45+ MPH) in a work area, Operating Without a Valid License, Driving Wrong Way on Divided Highway, and Trespassing. The passenger was issued charges for Operate Vehicle without Consent – Passenger and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, he was also issued a municipal citation for Trespassing.
