Body-camera footage time-stamped February 7, 2020 shows an Irving, Texas police officer stopping a white BMW outside a strip of shops on West Pioneer Drive. The driver is Charleston White, a Fort Worth comedian and activist. On the video, the officer says he stopped the car because its tags showed no insurance. White tells him he left his license at home. The officer later tells a colleague the car smelled of marijuana and a lot of air freshener, and White says he has a small amount. Later on the tape the officer refers to drugs and a gun in the car. White is handcuffed. The officer tells him more than once that he is being detained and that he is still not under arrest. That is where the footage ends. The footage went viral in October 2024. A note on the footage: the copy that circulated online is edited. It cuts between two body cameras and some minutes are missing. We have not added anything to what the officers and Mr. White says on camera.
