On March 16, 2024, Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy Lane observed a vehicle nearly drive off the side of the road at a high rate of speed. He turned his patrol vehicle around and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle continued to drive, despite Deputy Lane activating his patrol vehicle's lights and siren. The vehicle finally stopped in a driveway and the 35-year-old driver quickly exited the vehicle. Deputy Lane ordered the woman to stop while he pointed his Taser at her. She was detained, handcuffed, and placed in the back of the patrol vehicle. A decision was made to place the woman under arrest. She then started screaming profanities while berating Deputy Lane. At one point, her boyfriend came out and was briefly detained. The woman was transported to the Monroe County Jail, where the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test was performed to determine if she was under the influence. Deputy Lane determined that the woman was not impaired. She was charged with felony Fleeing or Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Without Violence. On June 11, 2024, she pleaded guilty to the Resisting charge and was fined $100 plus $238 in court costs and she was sentenced to time served (1 day in the county jail).
