On October 18, 2024, Rossford Police Officer Farabee stopped a vehicle for speeding. The police report indicates that he could immediately smell the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The 30-year-old driver denied consuming alcohol, but the passenger admitted she had been drinking. In order to confirm who the alcohol was coming from, Officer Farabee had the driver step out of the vehicle. Because he continued to smell alcohol, he asked the woman to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She agreed to have Officer Farabee perform the horizontal gaze nystagmus test on her. After performing the test, she again denied consuming any alcohol. At this point, she refused to consent to additional tests and would not provide a breath sample, so she was placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). At the police station, she refused to submit to an evidential breath test. She was charged with OVI, refusal to submit to testing, and speeding. She case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
