#news #police #arrest #cops Offenses: DUI - Adult beverages - Less Safe Failure to Maintain Lane/Improper Driving on Road Vehicle to Drive on Right Side of Roadway Report: On 12/22/2021, I responded to the area in reference to a vehicle wrecked out into a ditch. Dispatch received multiple calls regarding this accident, including one from a passerby who overheard the female driver say "I'm drunk and my car is in the ditch". I arrived in the area and located the silver Nissan Altima stuck in a ditch between the loop and the Inner 10 Loop off ramp. Zyanne Mackey, was standing outside of her vehicle. I began to ask her how her vehicle ended up where it was to which she replied she had pulled off to the side. I looked at the tire tracks in the grass, which began at the intersection of the off ramp and then turned clockwise down into the ditch where it got stuck. When Mackey began to explain, she said she was off to the side near the intersection and attempted to pull off further which is when she got stuck I asked her where she was coming form to which she replied a friend's house. She did not know the address, but was able to eventually show me on her phone a pin that was located nearby. When I asked where she was going to, she explained she was going to her girlfriend's house in Norcross. I explained that it didn't made sense that her car ended up where it was since her car was on the off ramp, which normally would Indicated that she was traveling on the Inner 10 Loop away from Norcross. Mackey seemed confused as to how her car ended up so far off the roadway and kept saying that she pulled off to the side near the intersection. Mackey's speech was slurred and slow, and she continued to struggle to come up with an explanation as to how her car ended up where it was (that matched the physical evidence it had come up the exit ramp the wrong direction). The odor of alcoholic beverages was also radiating off of her person and intensified as she spoke with officers. Mackey also was missing one of her earrings. I asked her how much she had to drink tonight, to which she replied nothing. I asked Mackey to walk with me up to the roadway where it was more level to continue speaking with me. When I continued to speak with Mackey about her car, she said she did not exit the loop, further indicating that she was traveling the wrong direction on the off ramp. I then asked what she was doing at her friend's house, to which she replied "just chilling". I circled back to try to figure out how her car ended up to where it was, which Mackey now replied that her glasses fell off and then she noticed she was driving the wrong way so she pulled over to call her girlfriend. I asked to check her eyes quickly and noticed Nystagmus at max deviation. At this time, I told Mackey to tell the truth about how much she had to drink tonight. Mackey now replied that she "didn't drink that much" and then said she only had one shot of Jose Cuervo around 6:00pm. I explained to her that I could still smell the odor of alcoholic beverages on her person, her slurred speech, and that her car had left the roadway after driving the wrong way, indicated that only one shot roughly six hours ago didn't make sense. I asked Mackey if she would like to complete a series of roadside field sobriety tests, to which she consented. I began to administer the standardized field sobriety test for nystagmus (the involuntary jerking of the eye). Mackey attempted to cheat the test by not tracking my finger and just moving her eyes back and forth to were she thought my finger was. I stopped the test more than once and witnesses her eyes continue to move. Although Mackey continued to try to cheat the test/was incapable of completing it, I was still able to observe Nystagmus at max deviation, onset prior to 45 degree, and lack of smooth pursuit (in both eyes). Mackey was transported to the Clarke County jail and turned over to the Clarke County Sheriff's office without Incident.
