When officers arrived, they learned that the individuals involved had already fled the area in a vehicle. Investigators determined that the victim, a 65-year-old Omro man, had posted a vehicle for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The suspects responded to the listing and, upon meeting the seller, an altercation quickly escalated. During the confrontation, one suspect drew a firearm. A struggle followed, during which the victim was shot and sustained additional injuries. The suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle. Shortly afterward, law enforcement located the vehicle and initiated a multi-agency pursuit. At 7:26 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Communications Center received information that the Wisconsin State Patrol and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office were pursuing a U-Haul box truck southbound on I-41 near Oshkosh. The truck was occupied by two suspects linked to the armed robbery and shooting in Omro. Deputies deployed tire deflation devices at County Highway N, successfully striking the U-Haul, but the vehicle continued down the interstate despite flattening tires. A State Patrol trooper and a sheriff’s K9 unit took the lead, avoiding flying tire debris as the truck’s rims shredded what remained of the tires. Moments later, a North Fond du Lac police officer deployed additional stop sticks at Winnebago Street. The driver swerved toward the squad car while attempting to avoid the devices, missing it by only a few feet. Eventually, the U-Haul was driving on bare rims. The suspects maneuvered around a Fond du Lac Police squad blocking the Johnson Street exit, but as the truck turned onto Johnson Street, a pursuing trooper performed a successful PIT maneuver in an attempt to end the chase. The suspects still refused to surrender. The driver shifted into reverse and attempted to back into the busy intersection of Johnson Street and Rolling Meadows Drive, where civilian motorists were present. Facing the suspects head-on, the K9 deputy recognized the immediate danger and took action. After initially bumping the U-Haul in an attempt to force compliance, he ultimately pushed the vehicle through the intersection, spinning it sideways and pushing it off the roadway until it became disabled. With multiple law enforcement units—two K9 teams, troopers, deputies, and officers—surrounding the scene, the suspects finally surrendered and were taken into custody.
