A Florida fisherman discovered that spearing blue crabs is illegal. This body camera footage begins with a wildlife officer approaching two individuals who have just come in from fishing. The officer notices lights and gigs on board, used for gigging flounder. The officer notices gig marks on all the blue crabs. To the officer, it appears that the fisherman has gigged all the crabs. It is illegal to spear or gig blue crabs in the state of Florida. Blue crabs can be harvested using a trap, net, or hook and line method. After some research, the officer determined that the limit on blue crabs is two ten-gallon buckets per fishing license. The fisherman was charged with exceeding the limit for blue crabs and harvesting the crabs illegally. Fines could range between $1,000 and $2,000. The officer took the remaining crabs and tossed them into the water.
