According Joliet police, officers on patrol at the Pace Transit Center in Joliet observed an individual slumped over in a chair inside the bus terminal. After an officer informed the person that sleeping was not allowed and requested they sit up, the individual became verbally hostile and refused to leave or provide proof of riding the bus. Backup was called, including a supervisor, but the subject continued to ignore commands to stand up and provide identification. When officers attempted to place the individual in custody for trespassing, the suspect physically resisted by pulling away and claiming a broken arm, despite having no visible cast or brace. The resistance continued outside, where the suspect braced their legs against the transport vehicle and sat on the concrete. This behavior prompted officers to apply leg shackles and physically carry the individual into a squad car to be transported for processing. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
