The incident started as a DUI investigation in the 4100 block of West Ina Road. PRCIT said Pico was pulled over for a traffic infraction and officers thought he was impaired. As they tried to arrest him, Pico ran away. Pico then allegedly pulled a firearm on the officers and was ordered to drop the weapon. Pico continued to run and was spotted along the Canyon Del Oro wash. PRCIT said Pico fired the gun at least once into the ground and started running toward a parking lot with people in it. That is when an MPD officer fired his rifle. Pico dropped to the ground but got up and continued running, according to PRCIT. The officers then exchanged fire with Pico and he was hit. The officers involved have been identified as Brad Gill, a 12-year veteran of the MPD; Jacob McCarthy, a six-year veteran of the MPD; and Max Wozniak, a seven-year veteran.
