It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: October 21, 2024, was quiet until 12:27 AM. Patrolman Dante Focarelli was on Nassau Street near University Place. He noticed a red Honda CR-V tailgating him. The Honda crossed the double yellow lines and sped past. Focarelli followed as the driver turned left onto Mercer Street. The driver then went onto Mercer Road. Focarelli turned on his lights to stop the car. The Honda kept going for 1200 feet. Finally, the driver pulled into a Mercer Street driveway. The driver was Litzy, age 22. The officer spoke with Litzy and smelled alcohol. He noticed other signs that she was not okay. Litzy said she was going to see her ex-boyfriend. She said she drank alcohol earlier. Then, she drove a car. Patrolman Focarelli thought she was impaired. He asked her to do two easy tests inside the car. First, she had to say the alphabet from "E" to "T". She did it right. Next, she counted backward from "75" to "49," but she made mistakes. Litzy had to get out of the car for more tests. Officer Focarelli started with the eye test. Next, she tried the walk and turn exercise. Then came the one leg stand test. Litzy struggled with these roadside checks. Her performance was not up to par. Litzy's driving was all over the place. The smell of booze was strong. She said she had been drinking. She failed the roadside tests. Officers arrested her for driving drunk. They put her in the patrol car. Her car was seized because of John’s Law. Focarelli took Litzy to the station for booking. Rund stayed behind. He waited for Lakeside Towing to haul away her car. Litzy stood at the station. The officer read her the rules for drivers. She agreed to take a breath test. The Alcotest showed her BAC was 0.139%. That's almost twice the 0.08% limit. Litzy finished with the police. Her ex-boyfriend signed a warning for her. Then they let her go until court. Patrolman Focarelli gave Litzy tickets. These included DUI and reckless driving. She also got tickets for following too close. The other tickets were for not keeping right. She also failed to update her address.
