In Ellenville, New York, German A. Lobaton — an EMT with the Ellenville First Aid and Rescue Squad — was sentenced to 13 years in prison plus five years of post-release supervision after his conviction on second-degree burglary, a class C violent felony later upheld on appeal. Lobaton responded to medical emergencies, helped transport residents to the hospital, then returned to those now-empty homes and stole electronics, jewelry, and firearms while the victims were still being treated. A pattern across three separate homes drew the attention of investigators, who recovered most of the property under a search warrant. The people who called 911 in their most frightening moments had let him into their homes to save them, never imagining the man who came to help had already marked the house to come back and rob it. ––– Disclaimer: This video is a dramatization based on real events.
