On May 11, 2023, officers with the Fairfax County Police Department responded to a stolen U Haul truck in the Mount Vernon District of Virginia. Investigators say 38 year old Brandon Lamagne attempted to take an officer’s firearm during a violent struggle beside a patrol vehicle before the encounter escalated into an officer involved shooting. On November 22, 2024, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano announced that no criminal charges would be filed against the officers involved. A June 11, 2025 report from the Fairfax County Independent Police Auditor later concluded the officers’ actions were lawful, objectively reasonable, and compliant with department policy. This video contains authentic police bodycam footage, surveillance video, and educational analysis of the incident, including the responding officers’ actions, tactical decision making, and the legal standards surrounding police use of force.
