On February 11th, 2023, officers in New Mexico were dispatched to a theft in progress at a local beauty store. Upon arrival, the officers noticed a female suspect approaching, wandering the parking lot with a black bag. The suspect ignored commands to stop and drop her bag, prompting an officer to approach from behind and detain her. A security guard on the scene reported that the suspect had been swearing and making threats to shoot the security guard after triggering the store's theft detectors. As the officers tried to read the suspect her Miranda Rights, she continually interrupted and insisted that she had not stolen anything, claiming she had only tested a perfume. The security guard decided not to press charges but requested that the suspect be trespassed from the property. However, shortly after the initial incident, the suspect returned to the store's parking lot, disturbing customers and looking into vehicles. The officers returned to the scene, and upon attempting to detain her again, the suspect resisted arrest, refusing to comply with the officer's commands. The officers arrested the suspect despite her resistance and transported her to jail.
