December 27, 2025, I, Trooper Eli Thomas, was stationary on the shoulder of Interstate 40 eastbound near the 281 mile marker. While stationary, I observed a white Chevrolet Camaro traveling eastbound in the right lane pass my location. I conducted a license plate check on the vehicle. After receiving a return, I ran the registered owner through ATLAS, which indicated the registered owner’s driver’s license was suspended. I began to catch up to the vehicle and made contact with it near the 283 mile marker. I attempted to initiate a traffic stop due to multiple traffic violations. I observed the vehicle traveling in the right lane following too closely behind a truck pulling a trailer, with less than one car length between the vehicles. I also observed the vehicle make an improper lane change by failing to signal while moving from the right lane across two lanes of traffic toward the outside left lane. I activated my emergency lights to initiate the traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield and continued traveling eastbound in the center lane at approximately 68–70 miles per hour. I then activated my emergency siren; however, the vehicle continued eastbound for approximately one-half mile while maintaining a constant speed. I began to conduct a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver and attempted to make contact with the rear passenger side of the vehicle. Due to traffic conditions, I disengaged the maneuver. Upon disengagement, the vehicle rapidly accelerated, reaching speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle continued eastbound and crossed into the state of Tennessee. I maintained visual contact with the fleeing vehicle and notified dispatch that I was in pursuit. I requested that the Tennessee Highway Patrol be notified. I continued following the vehicle to maintain visual contact while awaiting available THP units. The vehicle exited the interstate at Riverside/Front Street and traveled southbound on Front Street. I maintained visual contact as we proceeded southbound. After passing Beale Street, I was instructed to terminate the pursuit (10-22).
