On the 20th of June 2021, a 36-year-old Atherton man allegedly attacked a puppy in Ravenshoe in front of the Police. The Police Alleged that they spotted a male walking a female puppy blue healer when it broke loose from its leash; this is when the male chased, tackled and attacked the puppy. Police later came to his Moffat St home in the evening and followed up the claims with a charge of animal cruelty, with a notice to appear in court and ensuring the puppy's safety by also seizing the dog under section 146 (2, D) of the Police Powers and Responsibilities ACT 2000 (Qld.) The dog (Honey) was later handed over to the local council for relocation, and the Atherton man later appeared before a Magistrates judge (no further information after that is provided.)
