On October 23, 2023, Lombard Police Officer Vazquez observed a vehicle traveling 54 miles per hour (MPH) in a 35-MPH zone. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was being driven by a 26-year-old woman. Officer Vazquez asked the woman if she had consumed any alcohol and she initially said no, but then changed her story and said she had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening. She was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests, a request she was not happy about. During the middle of the tests, she attempted to pull the race card in order to influence the traffic stop. She eventually submitted to a portable breath test and the result was 0.164% BAC. She was arrested for DUI and that is when her attitude really came out. She made a statement in the back of the police car that things could not get any worse, but that is before officers found the loaded handgun in her purse. For the next 10 minutes, she refused to accept any responsibility for her actions. She was transported to the Lombard police station, where she submitted to an evidential breath test.
