Officer Shafer responded to an urgent call at the YMCA, located at 200 S. Main St., where a 16-year-old had collapsed and was not breathing. Remarkably, within just 90 seconds of receiving the dispatch, Officer Shafer arrived at the scene, found the unresponsive teenager, and immediately began administering life-saving measures. After performing the initial chest compressions, the young man regained consciousness and was placed in a recovery position. When the teenager became unresponsive a second time and stopped breathing, Officer Shafer quickly resumed chest compressions until North Canton medics arrived. Due to Officer Shafer’s prompt actions and composure under pressure, the teenager’s life was saved. Officer Shafer has been with the North Canton Police Department for only five months, having previously served as a Summit County Deputy in the jail division. Additionally, he is a decorated United States Marine and a Purple Heart recipient for his multiple deployments to Afghanistan. ⚠️Note: Footage from this video was obtained via the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) All persons featured on the channel are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
