Officers were dispatched to an airport terminal gate regarding a traveler who had been escorted off her departing flight by airline staff. Flight attendants reported that the heavily intoxicated woman was causing a major disruption, speaking loudly, and physically falling onto other passengers in the cabin. When law enforcement made contact, the traveler pushed her luggage toward the responding officer and began raising her voice. Officers immediately noted a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and a severe lack of balance that made it difficult for her to stand upright. The traveler admitted to drinking inside the airport but stubbornly refused to disclose the amount. Because of her disruptive behavior, the airline canceled her ticket. Officers explained the cancellation and offered to help her find a safe ride home so she could fly out at a later time. Instead of accepting the help, the woman continuously yelled that she did nothing wrong, threatened legal action against the airline, and demanded that officers arrest her. Given numerous opportunities to leave the crowded terminal voluntarily, she completely refused. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
