On the morning of January 20, 2024, Belleville Police officers responded to a motel on Washington Avenue for a report of a male creating a disturbance. Motel management and other guests reported that the suspect had returned to the property and was yelling while banging on a specific room door. Upon arrival, an officer observed the individual actively banging on the door and ordered him to leave the premises multiple times. The suspect became irate and refused to comply with police commands. Due to his tumultuous behavior during the early morning hours, officers placed the suspect under arrest. While the suspect was being processed, police conducted a welfare check on the occupant of the room, who had been asleep and was unaware of the suspect's return. The individual was formally charged and later released from custody with a pending court date. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
