On August 23, 2025, Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer Paris Winter responded to Bahia Honda State Park after witnesses reported two people had illegally harvested a tarpon. When the officer arrived, the subjects were standing near their vehicle with a bucket on the ground beside them. Inside that bucket was a tarpon. According to the report, the officer used an approved translation service because the subjects spoke Ukrainian. One subject admitted to catching the fish. The officer explained that tarpon are protected in Florida and cannot be taken, killed, or possessed without the proper tarpon tag. The subject did not have a Florida fishing license or a tarpon tag and was issued a Notice to Appear citation. The fish was seized, photographed, and returned to the resource. This video shows how a simple fishing trip at Bahia Honda State Park turned into an FWC investigation after visitors reported the violation.
