A routine traffic stop turns into a 35-minute police pursuit involving a gun, an armored police vehicle, multiple crashes, and a dramatic officer-involved shooting. On April 1, 2025, Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies in Florida attempted to stop a red Toyota hatchback after its driver ran a red light. Behind the wheel was 65-year-old Marina DeFilippo. After briefly speaking with a deputy, DeFilippo drove away, triggering a dangerous series of encounters with law enforcement. But things were about to escalate. When Indian Shores Police attempted another traffic stop, officers reported seeing DeFilippo holding a firearm. Despite commands to stop, she continued driving. Deputies deployed stop sticks, but even with damaged tires, the driver refused to surrender. Police eventually used an armored vehicle to perform a PIT maneuver, spinning her Toyota around. And that's when the situation became even more dangerous. According to investigators, DeFilippo drove toward a deputy standing behind his patrol car door, striking the vehicle and injuring the officer. Multiple deputies opened fire. Even after the gunfire, DeFilippo continued driving before crashing head-on into another police vehicle. She suffered three gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital.
