Disabled veteran Matt faces Alaska State Troopers and forestry officials right on his private property in Alaska USA. This June 5 2021 police encounter near southern 98 Rice Road shows what happens when law enforcement shows up without a warrant over a simple burn barrel. Matt is a retired disabled veteran under the Americans with Disabilities Act. He lives quietly with his wife. A neighbor called the Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry. Captain Eric Spitzer of the Alaska State Troopers arrived with forestry staff. Matt had a valid burn permit. Water was ready. The fire was supervised with a proper burned back area. Only one fire. No burn ban in effect. The barrel was legal and visible from the road. Not in the forest. Not a wildfire. Clear facts. Matt started recording this police encounter. He asked them to leave his property again and again. No crime. No probable cause. No reasonable suspicion. He was not detained. Not under arrest. Then the phone got taken. The captain claimed it might be a weapon and said spit contacted him. Matt says the phone struck his face causing pain to his eye and cheek. He kept asserting his Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure on private property in Alaska USA. Forestry later admitted there was no burn ban. The officers still stayed. Records requests about this law enforcement action were denied. Through 2026 no public lawsuit settlement or payout details have come out for this specific Alaska case. The video remains the main record of the full police encounter between a disabled veteran homeowner and Alaska cops.
