A fight between neighborhood dogs quickly turned into a deadly confrontation at the Mableton Ridge Apartments in Cobb County, Georgia. On July 10, 2022, 18-year-old Kelin Pereira became involved in an argument with K’Deidra Brooks after several dogs began fighting outside the apartment complex. Multiple residents pulled out their phones as the disagreement escalated and moved toward the back door of K’Deidra’s apartment. The footage shows Arlexus Perry pulling K’Deidra inside and completely closing the door. Kelin remained outside on the porch while Arlexus ran after a dog that had escaped into the grass. According to detectives, K’Deidra then armed herself with a kitchen knife, reopened the door and returned outside to confront Kelin. The cellphone camera shifted during the most critical moment, making portions of the struggle difficult to see. However, investigators said several frames showed a shiny object consistent with the knife in K’Deidra’s right hand as she made two striking motions toward Kelin’s upper body. The fight continued through the doorway and into the apartment. Kelin suffered multiple stab wounds and later died at the hospital. K’Deidra claimed she acted in self-defense and told detectives that Kelin’s father entered the apartment and began punching her before she grabbed the knife. Investigators rejected that version after comparing her statement with six cellphone videos, physical evidence and witness interviews. Kelin’s father told police that he entered only after hearing a scream and found his daughter already injured. Another witness reported seeing K’Deidra return through the door with the knife and stab Kelin before the confrontation moved inside. K’Deidra Brooks was initially arrested for felony murder and aggravated assault. The case was later resolved with convictions for voluntary manslaughter, making false statements to the government and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime. Georgia Department of Corrections records list a maximum possible release date of July 10, 2042. This episode examines the cellphone footage, police response, witness accounts, interrogation recordings and the evidence detectives used to challenge K’Deidra’s self-defense claim. Viewer discretion is advised. Portions of the footage have been blurred because of their graphic nature.
