It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On May 26, 2022, at about 9:46 PM, Officer Perez from the St. Petersburg Police spotted a black 2019 Lexus SUV weaving along 4th Street North near 81st Avenue North. She pulled it over. The driver stopped in a lot close to 4th Street North and 93rd Avenue North. Perez got out and approached the Lexus. The driver was Jillian. While talking to her, Perez saw Jillian's eyes looked watery. She smelled alcohol on her breath. Jillian showed signs of being impaired. Perez asked for her papers. Suspicious of drunk driving, she called another officer for help with a DUI check. Once he arrived, they asked Jillian to step out. She had to do sobriety tests. Jillian said she was a law student in Florida for school. Perez began with the eye test called Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. Jillian showed all six clues of impairment. She also had vertical eye jerking. Next came the walk-and-turn test. Jillian missed touching heel to toe. She turned wrong. Her steps were out of order. The last test was standing on one leg. She didn't lift her foot right. After the tests, Perez read Jillian her rights. Jillian agreed to talk. She said she'd been out with friends at a restaurant that night. She admitted drinking wine before driving. The smell of booze, her swerving, her confession, and the failed tests all pointed to guilt. Perez arrested her for DUI. They took Jillian to the St. Petersburg Police station. There, she agreed to a breath test. It showed 0.155% blood alcohol twice—almost double the 0.08% limit. Then they drove her to Pinellas County Jail. She faced charges for DUI with BAC over 0.15 under law 316.193(4). They let her go until court.
