On 10/4/23, a deputy from the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office in Georgia observed a white Chevy Camaro with dark window tint passing by. The deputy initiated a traffic stop. At this time, the deputy observed the driver of the Camaro tossing a bag out of the window, which was later found to contain illicit narcotics. After discarding the bag, the suspect stopped and the deputy questioned him about what he had thrown out. The suspect insisted that he had only disposed of a pack of cigarettes. At this point, the deputy instructed the driver to exit the car, to which the driver responded, "Yes, sir." Then, without warning, the suspect attempted to drive off while the deputy was still at the window. The deputy opened the door, grabbed the suspect's arm, and instructed him not to drive off multiple times. Despite this, the suspect ignored his commands and sped off, initiating a vehicle pursuit. During the brief chase, the deputy described the suspect's driving as "very reckless." Shortly thereafter, the suspect lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and crashed into a pole on the corner of West Mary Street and North Oak Street in Valdosta. The suspect then promptly exited the car and attempted to escape on foot. The deputy, whose partner is a K9, warned the suspect to stop or risk being bitten. However, the suspect continued to ignore commands and kept running until he was apprehended by the K9 while trying to climb over a fence. After being bitten by the K9, the suspect finally surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect received a medical evaluation for the K9 bite before being booked into the Lowndes County Jail for felony fleeing, reckless driving, and several other charges.
