ORLANDO, FL - At 2:17AM on December 19th, 2020, Orlando Police observed a car traveling the wrong way down a one way street. While speaking to the driver, she admits to drinking at a friend's house. At this point, the officer who pulled the driver over called for a special DUI enforcement officer to assist in the investigation. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer noted that the suspect's eyes were bloodshot and that he could smell an odor of alcohol coming from the person. He also observed that she had slurred speech. The driver agreed to participate in a field sobriety test and stepped out of the vehicle. For the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, the officer had to continue to instruct the suspect not to lead the stimulus with her eyes. The officer also observed the suspect to have lack of smooth pursuit, a distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to a 45-degree angle in both eyes. For the walk-and-turn test, the suspect continued walking well beyond the nine steps as instructed. She did not touch heel-to-toe on multiple steps, and at one point lost balance. The suspect also did not turn as instructed. For the one leg stand test, the suspect did not raise her right foot to the explained distance and did not put her hands down to her sides. The officer had to tell the suspect to put her hands down at her sides and instead, she put her foot down. The suspect then raised her foot and put it back on the ground. During the Romberg test, the suspect told the officer she understood the instructions, but did not inform him of when 30 seconds had passed. After reading the suspect her Miranda rights, the officer arrested the suspect for driving under the influence (DUI). She was taken in for further processing and refused to give a breath alcohol sample.
