Shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday. A frantic 911 call alerted authorities to a vehicle crashing into a residence near the junction of 8th Street Northeast and Fair Avenue, as detailed in a press statement from Sheriff Orvis Campbell. Rushing to the scene, a deputy observed a man hastily leaping into the passenger seat of a nearby vehicle, evidently attempting escape, per the release. An altercation ensued, culminating in gunfire, leaving the deputy with injuries to the hand and leg. Seizing the opportunity, the suspect absconded in the sheriff's cruiser, leading to a subsequent collision with a parked car near the crossing of Tell Street Southeast and East High Avenue, resulting in substantial damage and airbag deployment, according to the report. The suspect was swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility but was later pronounced deceased. Sheriff Campbell expressed uncertainty regarding the cause of death, whether attributed to the crash or the preceding altercation. Further clarification on the circumstances is expected from the county coroner. Meanwhile, the deputy's injuries, though significant, are deemed non-life-threatening, as per the release. ⚠️Note: Footage from this video was obtained via the Ohio Public Records Act (R.C. 149.43) All persons featured on the channel are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
