On May 7, 2025, deputies investigated a reported shoplifting incident at TJ Maxx in Palm Coast, Florida. Loss prevention officers alleged that 26-year-old Kaliya Thomas concealed children’s clothing inside a black bag before leaving the store without paying. Deputies later stopped a gray Chevrolet Malibu and observed tagged TJ Maxx merchandise inside the vehicle. During a search, officers reportedly recovered additional clothing, security-device pins, and a magnetic anti-shoplifting device from the center console. Thomas was identified by loss prevention as the woman who carried the merchandise from the store. The recovered items were valued at $99.91. Thomas was arrested on charges of felony petit theft based on prior theft convictions and possession or use of an anti-shoplifting countermeasure device.
