Police bodycam footage shows a carjacking homicide suspect open fire on Newport Beach police outside an In-N-Out in Laguna Hills, California, after a police chase. This real bodycam footage and dashcam video, released by the Newport Beach Police Department, follows the officer involved shooting from the plate-reader hit to the final shots. On September 19, 2025, at about 9:53 PM, a woman was shot during a carjacking in Carlsbad and her car was taken. At 12:36 AM a license plate reader in Laguna Beach flagged the stolen car. Newport Beach officers in marked patrol cars found it and tried to stop it; the driver would not stop, and a pursuit followed, joined by an Irvine Police K9 unit. On El Toro Road in Laguna Hills the driver made an abrupt left, stopped across lanes of traffic, got out and began firing a handgun at the officers and their patrol cars, then ran toward an In-N-Out that still had patrons and employees inside. Officers returned fire. Police say he kept firing even after he went down. Officers approached with the Irvine K9 because he was still armed, separated him from the handgun and took him into custody, then gave medical aid. Andre Matijasevic, 31, of Rancho Santa Margarita, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. No officers were injured; rounds he fired struck police cars. The Orange County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the shooting. Was this shooting justified? Tell us in the comments.
