It stopped at a red light, blocking the crosswalk. He hit his lights for a pull-over. The driver stopped near S Tampania Avenue and W Cleveland Street. Bailey stepped out and met 23-year-old Sierra Sands behind the wheel. He talked to her. Signs of drunk driving jumped out. Alcohol stench hit his nose. She said she'd grabbed her two passengers from Bar Hwrd that night. How much to drink? Two, she admitted. Suspicion grew. He had her step out for sobriety checks. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Next, Walk and Turn. Then One Leg Stand. Bad driving. Drunk clues. Booze smell. Her words. Failed tests. That sealed it. Arrest for DUI. Into the squad car she went. Bailey drove her to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Her passengers? They walked free. At the jail, Sierra took a breath test. Scores hit 0.156 and 0.154.
