On May 10, 2023, Santa Fe County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch. When the first deputy arrived, he encountered a woman passed out behind-the-wheel with the car still in drive. Deputies were eventually able to wake the 22-year-old woman up. She admitted to consuming too much alcohol. She was given standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested shortly thereafter. She submitted to an evidential breath test and, according to the police report, the result was 0.21% BAC. She was charged with Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor (1st Offense), Careless Driving, and Possession of an Open Container. Prosecution of the DWI charge was deferred pending the successful completion of a 1st time offender's program, which included attending DWI school, completing a Victim Impact Panel, and some community service. The other 2 charges were dismissed.
