Two retail theft suspects are caught hiding in a tent behind a house — traced there by the phone number one of them left with a store employee. He walked back into the store and said he had lost his EBT card. He hadn't. On July 18, 2024, deputies in Flagler County identified two suspects connected to a retail theft in Palm Coast. The trail led them to a tent pitched behind a residence in Bunnell. Store employees walk deputies through how it happened. The man returned to the store claiming he had lost his EBT card, then asked to go back and search the aisles himself. Before leaving he gave an employee a name and a phone number so they could call him if it turned up — the detail that led deputies straight to him. Both an adult male and an adult female were taken into custody at the tent, with two additional violation of probation case numbers requested at the scene.
