According to the police report, officers were called to a domestic disturbance involving a man and his girlfriend after an argument escalated during a breakup. The man told officers he met with her to end the relationship after hearing rumors about her, and he chose a location with surveillance cameras because he was afraid of how she might react. While they were seated at a table, she threw a sandwich and then a cup of coffee at him. The argument continued as she followed him onto the dock, used a water hose to spray him, and threw several life jackets into the water. He repeatedly asked her to leave, and he later showed officers video clips of the incident. In another video, she picked up a lightweight chair and walked toward him. The footage shows her swinging the chair and striking him on the left arm. He took the chair from her and set it down. The man told officers he was not injured. While one officer was still speaking with him, other units had already arrived at the woman’s residence to make contact. When the officer arrived, she was detained. After being read her rights, she admitted to throwing the coffee and said she was emotional. When asked about the chair, she questioned whether it was a felony before being told it was a misdemeanor. Police determined there was probable cause for Battery – Touch or Strike, a first-degree misdemeanor. She was taken to the detention center without incident. Officers noted that the incident met the criteria for dating violence under state law. Body-worn camera and photographs were uploaded as evidence. The case later moved to county court, where she entered a plea of not guilty with a public defender. At the arraignment hearing, the State Attorney’s Office announced a nolle prosse, meaning the charge was dropped and the case was closed.
