On November 13th, 2024, at approximately 7:50 PM, a deputy responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver. Prior to their arrival, communications had received a call about a vehicle driving erratically. The caller reported that the male driver exited the vehicle and appeared to be unsteady on his feet. After a short time, the driver returned to the vehicle and continued driving northbound. Utilizing the information provided, the deputy located the vehicle stopped at an intersection. While following the vehicle, the deputy observed it fail to maintain its lane, crossing the left yellow line multiple times. The driver activated the right turn signal and struck the curb before proceeding through a traffic circle. After witnessing these violations, the deputy conducted a traffic stop, activating emergency lights. When the deputy approached, they noticed the driver had bloodshot eyes and the smell of alcohol on their breath. The deputy inquired if the driver needed medical assistance, to which the driver responded negatively. Despite lawful commands to remain in the vehicle for safety reasons, the driver was noncompliant and attempted to exit the vehicle. After becoming agitated and verbally confrontational, the driver tried to walk into the roadway. To ensure safety, the deputy guided the driver back to the vehicle. The driver continued to disregard commands, leading the deputy to secure them in handcuffs due to their resistance and argumentative behavior. Upon arrival, the responding deputy made contact with the first deputy, who had detained the driver. The driver remained uncooperative and attempted to kick one of the deputies while being escorted to the patrol vehicle. Additional restraints were necessary to safely transport the driver to the back seat. While in the vehicle, the driver continued to yell profanities and displayed signs of intoxication. Based on the observations of the first deputy, including the driver's bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence. Due to safety concerns, field sobriety tests were not conducted at the scene. The driver was transported to the local detention facility without further incident. Upon arrival at the detention center, the driver declined to provide a breath sample when requested by the certified operator. He was subsequently issued a citation for driving under the influence, noting a prior conviction for the same offense.
